KCL Tech
A London tech hub where students and early-career professionals find people, skills, opportunities, and room to build.
KCL Tech is the case for community as infrastructure: events create momentum, while systems, partners, teaching, and a cared-for committee make it repeatable.
The situation.
KCL Tech publicly positions itself as a student-led London tech hub where students and early-career professionals can learn, build, meet people, and find their next step. Its work spans workshops, hackathons, careers and mentorship, community, and flagship events.
My role evolved from Hackathon Manager and Web Development Programming Lead into Co-President. That progression shifted the problem from delivering individual events to helping a committee build operating rhythms, partnerships, learning opportunities, and a wider sense of belonging.
What I did.
I led five weeks of MERN workshops, introduced new systems and processes, formalised committee meetings and socials, and co-led the 2025/26 direction.
I worked alongside Co-President Maryam Marei, the former President, committee members, co-host societies, sponsors, mentors, and volunteers. The scale of KCL Tech came from that collective effort, while my role was to create structure, keep people aligned, and help the committee deliver consistently.

Moved from event execution to operating systems
Helped formalise meetings, socials, and processes so the organisation’s work did not depend only on isolated bursts of event effort.
Built learning pathways
Led five weeks of MERN workshops and supported a programme that frames workshops, hackathons, mentorship, and community as connected ways into tech.
Co-produced flagship moments
Helped organise Tech Summit 2025 and FirstYearHack 2025.2, while KCL Tech and partner teams delivered the people, programming, logistics, fundraising, and marketing that made those events possible.
Extended the hub’s public surface
Contributed to the society’s web and community infrastructure; a current KCL Tech post also credits me as author of its beginner guide to monorepos and agentic monorepos.
What happened.
Tech Summit 2025 became KCL Tech's largest summit to date, taking over Bush House for a full conference and careers fair.
HackLondon 2026 brought in more than 600 registrations for a 24-hour event co-hosted with UCL societies. I worked across logistics, sponsorships, partner coordination, and the wider participant experience with the committees, sponsors, mentors, volunteers, and participants who made it possible.
What I learned.
Events need an operating system
Energy attracts people, but meeting rhythms, ownership, handoffs, and care for the committee are what make repeated delivery possible.
Scale must be defined before it is celebrated
Registrations, attendance, submissions, reach, and membership are different measures; an impressive figure without a definition creates avoidable ambiguity.
Community is a collective product
Leadership means creating conditions for others to contribute, receive credit, and continue the work rather than narrating a group’s momentum as a personal win.
Document the work while it happens
Clear event records, credits, metrics, and photographs make handovers easier and preserve the contribution of the people who delivered each programme.
